I hated Day Shift (Netflix)

"Day Shift" is a new vampire hunting movie starring Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco. The movie tells the story of a blue collar dad trying to provide a better life for his young daughter. However, his routine job in San Fernando Valley pool cleaning is a disguise for his true income, hunting down and killing vampires as part of an International Union of Viper Hunters.

The premise sounds exciting, but can J.J. Perry deliver on it?

The opening scene of the movie is a bonkers action sequence with Jamie Foxx shotgun blasting the hell out of an old lady who turns out to be a vampire. The two of them then have a wild fight that turns out to be a great time. The movie's use of ragdoll physics in its action scenes makes them pop in a way that many other action movies (or blockbusters) do not.

Day Shift is the kind of movie that's so bad it's good. It is so obvious what they were trying, yet it fails so miserably. The acting is terrible, the dialogue is stilted, the plot is confusing. But somehow, I found myself enjoying it. Maybe it's my obsession with vampire movies, maybe it's just because I like watching bad movies. Day Shift was great. It's not a great movie, but it's a lot of fun. This is all I expect from a movie like that.

Day Shift is a mixed movie. On one hand, there is a lot of fun action and some fun characters (the brothers and Seth), but on the other hand the villain was horrible and there are a lot of mediocre characters. Some scenes were missing. (The Jaime Foxx vampire movie) Bud's neighbor acts like they are close friends even though she was only given 3 minutes of screen-time prior to the final scene. This makes the characters who are better than others shine even more. It's a fun movie overall, but could have been more.

Snoop Dogg was almost forgotten about. He is great in Day Shift. It's worth the entire movie to watch him. His character is funny and he has great lines. But more than that, he's just so natural in the role. It's as if he was made for the role.
